Scioto Valley 34th Anniversary Banquet — March 11, 2015

The Scioto Valley Chapter held its 34th Anniversary Banquet again in the second-floor party room of the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant on the Port Columbus Airport property, overlooking Runway 28L. We like that place!

As always, when we hold our annual banquet there, the restaurant gave us a well-rounded choice of entrees at reasonable prices, and dedicated a personable server to assure we enjoyed our evening there. That formula is guaranteed to be a successful one!

⇩ During cocktail-time before dinner, Hal Noltimier shared some of his and Paula's recent international adventures with Amy and Pete Yersavich. Behind Hal, Paula Rumbaugh was likely doing the same with Lani Heilman.

Mary had just finished unloading her bag of imaginative cupcakes she had baked for the occasion, all with those standup-99 numerals she does so well. The cupcakes are barely visible on the table behind George and Jann.

⇩ Before the start of the banquet, Chapter Treasurer Paula Hook was ready to receive payments from the attendees for the banquet fees, as well as for the annual chapter dues from the members who hadn't already taken care of those details. Here, Paula and Connie Copeland chatted in the foreground, with some of the other members and guests arrayed in the background.

2015 North Central Section Meeting — April 17–19, 2015

The Scioto Valley Chapter hosted the Spring Meeting for the North Central Section of the Ninety-Nines in Columbus this year, including a Saturday side trip to the renowned Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Here are some photographs recalling a few of the moments from that gala weekend.

Noble County Picnic Flyout — October 31, 2015

Christine Mortine had mentioned to the chapter that the Wolf Run State Park in east-central Ohio had a fly-in camping and picnic area situated only a few steps into the woods from the edge of their well-maintained 3800-foot paved runway, adjacent to the edge of a deep and picturesque lake. Christine recommended we should plan a fly-out picnic there sometime in the fall before bad weather arrived, and maybe while the autumn leaf-viewing season was still in good condition.

It happened that Saturday, October 31 (Halloween, by coincidence) was a bye week for the Ohio State Football schedule, and the chapter felt that would be a good day for the fly-out activity.

When Halloween morning rolled around, the weather was pleasantly crisp, the previous day's winds had abated and the weather was good VFR with a high overcast, so the event was a go. The actual peak-color time for the autumn leaves had been the previous week, but the foliage still was enjoyable, both in the air and on the ground.

Christine paired up the available empty airplane seats with those needing rides, and we all met at The Ohio State University Airport for a three-airplane departure around 10:00 AM.

⇩ On the ramp at Wolf Run State Park, Paula Rumbaugh and Mary Biller had just arrived in their Grumman Traveler, parking alongside Christine Mortine's rented Bonanza and Connie and Ray Copeland's Cessna 340.

⇩ After walking across the runway from the parking ramp toward the picnic area, the group posed for a photograph beside the sign identifying the fly-in camping (and picnic) area. Paula Rumbaugh, Megan Sheppard, Clara Kridler, Jane McIntire, Vickie Evans, Paula Hook, Stephanie Brunni, Connie Copeland, Christine Mortine, and Mary Biller were about to head down the grassy pathway through the woods directly behind the sign.

⇩ After dropping off the luncheon supplies at the picnic tables in the woods, several of the group strolled a little further down the bank toward the water's edge to get a closer look at the lake and more of the autumn leaves on the opposite shore.

⇩ There was a picnic table down here by the water's edge, too, inviting visitors to rest and gaze northeastward along one of the two main arms of this Y-shaped lake.

⇩ Returning up the bank to the main picnic area, we all sat around in the solitude of the autumn forest, enjoying the food, the atmosphere and the stories we swapped before calling it a successful day and returning home.

Scioto Valley Christmas Party — December 9, 2015

Mary and Kevin Biller hosted our annual Christmas Party in their home again this year, baking a huge ham and supplying all manner of beverages for us. Other members brought in many kinds of assorted vegetable, salad, and dessert dishes to supplement the feast, and voila; another great SV99 social event joined our long history.

But it wasn't only about the party. Treasurer Paula Hook accepted a good number of cash donations in support of the aviation-fuel fund for the International Health Service, and the chapter members used some of the party time to pack many cans with candies and home-baked cookies for later delivery to local ATC and FBO facilities that we all use throughout the year.

⇩ With the many main-course food dishes arrayed on Mary's kitchen counter, the party guests began filling their plates. The desserts were all in the next room on a different table, to be confronted later.

⇩ Jim Prater, George Bowne, Hal Noltimier, Amy Yersavich, Jo-Ann Prater, and Paula Hook all clustered around the food bar.
